2005 Results

OCTOBER 22: Chris closed out the racing season in the two-day event for modifieds at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. He started seventh in his heat race and moved up at the finish, but not enough for an automatic berth in the next day's A-main. Chris was scheduled to start 10th in the B-main Saturday but chose to give up his starting spot and not attempt to qualify.

OCTOBER 15: Thirty-eight modifieds set up a competitive night at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. Chris started third and finished second in his heat race, putting him seventh at the start of the A-main. On the race's second restart, Chris' car was bumped from behind and spun, and track officials placed him at the back of the field for the restart. He completed only a couple of laps before pulling off the track.

OCTOBER 14: Chris qualified 13th among more than 60 UMP modifieds at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway; he finished second in his heat race to earn an automatic spot in the A-main. In the feature, Chris started 17th and finished 16th.

SEPTEMBER 24: After Chris started sixth and finished third in his heat race for modifieds at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, rain set in and wiped out the feature race.

SEPTEMBER 23: Sharing the bill with the World of Outlaws late models, Chris qualified 22nd among 31 UMP modifieds, then moved up two spots and finished fourth in his heat race for at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway near Calvert City, Ky. That started Chris 16th in the feature race, where he moved into the top 10 before a pin came out of the right front shock and resulted in an early finish.

SEPTEMBER 17: After a week off from racing, Chris was among 64 modified racers that turned out for the $1,200-to-win Pepsi Nationals at I-55 Raceway near Pevely, Mo. Chris started on the third row of the fifth heat race (out of seven) and finished sixth; the top three advanced to the A-main, and the rest to one of three B-mains. In his B-main, Chris started in the fourth row of the first race and finished seventh; only the winners advanced to the finale, putting an end to his night.

SEPTEMBER 3: Chris picked up a victory Saturday in the modified B-main at I-55 Raceway near Pevely after finishing eighth in his heat race. After leading flag-to-flag in the B-main, Chris advanced to the A-main and started 19th; he moved up to 14th by the finish.

AUGUST 27: A return trip to Pevely's I-55 Raceway led to a disappointing finish. After Chris finished ninth in the second heat race for UMP modifieds, he started eighth in the B-main and advanced two spots. Only two advanced to the A-main, which left Chris out of the feature race lineup.

AUGUST 20: A trip up Interstate 55 to Pevely, Mo., led to a night of UMP modified racing at I-55 Raceway just outside St. Louis. In the heat race, Chris started alongside Jared Wagster and led every lap for the win. That earned him a spot in the dash, where Chris finished fifth and put him No. 5 in the feature race lineup. Chris was running in the top five until a long caution delay - the third of the race. That's when the car's right rear tire got too hot, and Chris slipped back in the field on the restart and finished 12th.

AUGUST 13: A dry track left little room to pass at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway on Saturday, and that turned a 10th-place starting spot into a ninth-place finish in the feature race. Chris finished fourth in the heat race to head into the feature, where the cars in fifth through ninth finished nose-to-tail.

JULY 30: Starting in the back row of his heat race made it an upward climb from the start for Chris on Saturday at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. Chris moved up to finish fourth in the heat, putting him 11th at the start of the feature. In the finale, he moved up as high as seventh before settling into eighth at the end.

JULY 23: Chris won his heat race after starting on the pole, putting him in the No. 1 spot for the modified feature at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. Chris slipped out of the groove briefly on the first lap and slid to third, and he moved back to second late in the race. Chris slid out of the bottom groove on the final lap and gave up two spots; he finished fifth.

JULY 16: Rain wiped out feature races at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, where Chris finished third in the final modified heat race and was scheduled to start ninth in the feature.

JULY 9: Chris went into the night at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway third in the modified points race. Chris started seventh in the feature after placing third in his heat; he went on to take fifth place in the feature.

JULY 5: Chris competed at a midweek event for modifieds at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway that attracted a field of 36 modifieds for $1,000 to win. Chris finished fourth in his heat and advanced to the feature, then started 14th and had moved into the top 10 when the car's rearend broke and sent the car back to the pits for the night. He finished 17th.

JULY 2: In the team's fourth night of racing over eight days, Chris finished second in his heat race at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway to earn a sixth-place start in the feature, which was cut to 15 laps just before the field took the track. Chris slipped to 10th. He sits fourth in the track's points race.

JULY 1: Rain brought and early end to the program at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, Ky. Chris qualified seventh among modifieds and was scheduled to start on the pole of the first heat before the rain began.

JUNE 28: Racing a special midweek event at Paducah (Ky.) Raceway, Chris qualified eighth among 20 cars, then started fourth and finished fourth in his heat race. That put him in the No. 8 starting spot for the feature, where he went on to finish sixth. It was Chris' first time out this season in the older 2002 modified.

JUNE 25: On Day No. 2 of a two-day event at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, a feature race shortened by caution flags kept Chris from contending for his first win of the season. After finishing second in his heat race, Chris started in the third row of the feature, which was scheduled for 30 laps. The event later was cut to 20 laps just before the field rolled onto the track, then was cut to 15 after a series of cautions. That left Chris in third and gaining on the leaders at the finish.

JUNE 24: In the first day of a two-day event at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, Chris finished second after starting in that same spot in his modified heat race. That put him in the second row for the 20-lap feature; he finished fifth on a mostly one-groove track.

JUNE 18: After a week off because of rain, Chris started third and finished second in his modified heat race at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. Chris started sixth in the feature on a track that turned dry and left little room to pass; Chris moved as high as fifth, then slid high and spun on the final lap for a DNF.

JUNE 4: After moving from the back row to finish fourth in his heat race, Chris started 12th in the modified feature at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. Chris moved up to join a close race for fourth place before two late caution flags, then settled into a sixth-place finish.

MAY 28: A win in his heat race put Chris on the outside front row of the feature at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, but bad luck set in when a fuel pump went out on the pace lap. The pump was quickly replaced during a lengthy caution period, and Chris rejoined the field two laps down, which was too much to overcome in the 20-lap event.

MAY 27: Chris started in the third row and finished fifth in his heat race at Malden (Mo.) Speedway, putting him deep in the pack for the modified feature race. On a night with little passing in the feature, Chris finished 10th.

MAY 21: Caution flags turned the modified feature at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway into a test of endurance. Chris started 16th after placing fifth in his heat race, but he picked off the field quickly and survived several early restarts to ride into fourth by Lap 2. Another in the series of yellow flags sent Chris to the rear, where he worked to climb back to fifth by the end. The race was cut from 20 laps to 15 because of the numerous restarts.

MAY 20: Chris won his heat race and got off to a quick start in the feature at Malden (Mo.) Speedway, where he led the first seven laps in a tight race with Robby Arnold and Robert Powers. After a couple of late restarts, Chris and Powers ran side-by-side to the finish, where Powers was ruled the winner. Chris was officially scored in second.

MAY 18: On a special NASCAR night at Paducah (Ky.) Raceway, Chris finished sixth in his heat race, one spot ahead of Kenny Wallace. In the finale, Chris battled a dry, dusty race surface to advance from 16th at the start and finish 10th.

MAY 7: It had the makings of a big night at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway after Chris finished third in his heat race behind Robert Powers and Troy Fowler. Chris moved up to second in the feature and was pulling away from the rest of the field when a flywheel broke and ended his night.

MAY 6: Chris opened two nights of racing with a trip to Malden (Mo.) Speedway, where he finished second to Todd Clifford in his heat race. Chris finished fifth in the feature, up one spot from a sixth-place start.

APRIL 30: After a week off because of weather, Chris started his night at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway by starting in the back row of his heat race, then finishing fourth. That put him 11th at the start in the feature, where he moved to as high as fifth before settling into sixth at the finish.

APRIL 16: Chris finished a close second to Jared Wagster in his modified heat race Saturday at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway, earning a fourth-place start in the feature. An oil pressure problem created problems in the first 10 laps, forcing Chris' No. 66 out early and looking toward a return this weekend to Poplar Bluff and Malden.

APRIL 9: Chris scored his best finish of the season after an all-around competitive night among a 30-car modified field at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. After he finished third in his heat race, Chris started 10th in the A-main and worked his way into a second-place finish.

APRIL 2: After leading his heat race for several laps, Chris finished third at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Speedway. The feature race didn't go as well after debris knocked a hole in the No. 66 modified's radiator, knocking Chris out of the race in the early laps and preventing a solid finish.

MARCH 17-19: Chris finished 19th among some of the nation's top drivers in the three-day season-opener for modifieds at West Plains (Mo.) Speedway. He won his heat race and was fifth in the qualifying feature Thursday to become locked into Saturday's A-main lineup, then finished 19th in the finale -- the Justin Stanfill Memorial -- Saturday. More than 100 cars signed in for the event.
